5 Things to do Before Visiting a Display Home

Building a home is quite possibly the biggest investment you’ll ever make, so planning should inevitably become your best friend. Just like you would test drive a car or try on multiple outfits for a big occasion before the final purchase, visiting a display home is essential before you decide to build. We all know looking at something on paper or via a screen cannot possibly make up for the feeling you get seeing it or trying it out in-person. In the case of display homes, you can see things to size with the human eye and really get a feel of what it’d be like living in the space day-to-day. So, in the spirit of planning, planning, planning, here are 5 essential things to consider before visiting a display home:

1. Know your budget

Be sure to consistently liaise with your bank/lender throughout the buying and building process and only begin your shopping once you know what you can afford. That way, you can be a lot more specific in which display homes to visit and save a lot of time (and money!).

2. Be clear about what you need in your new home

Make sure to have a list of must-haves with you and know the land size and time frame you’re after. You should also be clear on the style of home you desire – whether that’s a single-story with 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms and a double-garage, or a multi-level home with 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 1 garage for example.

3. Plan a good time to visit

Most people have weekends available to knock out a whole bunch of display home visits but it may not be ideal to

a) rush through due to lack of time and

b) not get adequate time to chat to consultants with all of your questions. To avoid this, the best thing to do is book an appointment with a consultant in advance, and if possible, visit during the weekdays when they’re much quieter, giving you ample opportunity to browse the home without having to tackle a crowd.

4. Bring these with you on your visit

– Your family. It’s best for everyone who’ll be living in the home to be involved in choosing what their new home will be like.

– Floorplans. It’s helpful to have your own printout of the floorplans to put your notes in and mark ways you may even want to modify certain things.

– Your phone! Or an actual camera so you can take lots of photos and/or videos which will come in very handy post-visit.

5. Know what you’re getting

Display homes are idealised versions of home designs that tend to have additional finishes and features that may not be included in the quoted price, so make sure when you speak to the consultant, to get a clear outline of what’s included and what isn’t.

The great thing is, our consultants are a friendly bunch who are always ready to answer any of your questions, so give us a buzz on 1300 350 793 or email us at sales@zachomes.com.au and let’s plan your display home adventure today!

We have just started our building journey with ZAC homes. We have chosen to build with ZAC homes as they have allowed flexibility with the design, resulting in a better usage of the living and bedroom spaces. Other companies had a rigid design which would have resulted in variation fees.

…ZAC Homes kept us regularly up to date with the progress of our home and the job was finished on time, which was very important to us. We are one hundred percent happy with our home and can thoroughly recommend ZAC Homes and their crew to anyone contemplating building a home.

…Firstly I would like to thank the ZAC homes team for the experience that my wife and I have had when making the purchase of an investment property. The professionalism and dedication that was displayed, was by far the best that we have seen or experienced previously.
